About Rusty Pelican
Rusty Pelican, legally known as Amhur G.D. Visintin (born 1972), officially came into existence in 2008. Not in a hospital, but in a local joint in Mandeville, Louisiana, shortly after an irresponsible intake of shrimp étouffée and fried alligator. According to some, it was destiny. According to others, it was the food. He began life as a photographic alter ego, but grew up fast, developing wit and opinions. From there on, the rest pretty much took care of itself. His writing stems from a rare and slightly concerning condition: an uncontrollable passion for instruction manuals. He reads them. He understands them. Worse still, for many years he wrote them, producing manuals and operating procedures without ever completely losing his sanity (an event still under scientific observation). A lifelong enthusiast of American cars (he was born on July 4th, so some things were clearly inevitable), he soon began collaborating as a photographer with a major Italian magazine dedicated to the American car and motorcycle scene. At some point, someone made the mistake of asking whether he felt like writing as well. He accepted enthusiastically, took a small but deeply satisfying revenge on his former Italian teacher, and became a regular contributor. A lover of old things, he still takes notes with a pencil and a fountain pen. However, against all evolutionary expectations, he has adapted and now uses technology with a certain — and at times surprising — ease. About himself, he says: “I'm a curiousaurus… I sniff, I watch, I check if it's dangerous — and I shoot in every case.”
