Last Saturday we had the pleasure of organizing a trip of great historical value along a little-known but profoundly significant itinerary: the Boston By Way, the road that during the Second World War connected the Sillaro valley floor to the front line. Our journey began near San Clemente, where we met to begin a journey back in time, aboard historic vehicles. The first stop was the Villaggio della Salute Più, a place that, during the conflict, first hosted the Axis command and then the Allied command. Here we were welcomed with great availability and accompanied on a visit to the Gothic Line Museum in our lands, an essential experience for understanding the crucial role of this territory during the war events. We then continued along the historic Via Calvanella, renamed by the English as Boston By Way. At the center of this itinerary awaited us Roberto Serattini, of Podere Calvanella, who involved us in an intense story about the reality of the autumn of 1944, when his house became a front-line hospital and logistics base for the Allied troops engaged in the climb towards Monte Grande. After a morning full of emotions and memories, we took a break for lunch at the Agriturismo Il Farneto, and then returned to San Martino in Pedriolo along dirt roads and panoramic roads immersed in greenery.
